Royal Marines: Station Patrol?

As I'm reviewing a WoWL challenge submission Im reminded of this:

"The Royal Marines are in charge of station security. Although the characters responsible for this police work are in a separate branch of the Service, all Royal Marines in the area can be called in to help when trouble breaks out."

Has anyone ever tackled detailing this branch?

Some thoughts/questions:

1. Should it be called a branch? in American service different branches of service are usually Army, Navy, Air Force, etc.

Options: Station Security (SS- all sorts of interesting historical conotations to that)
Station Patrol?

2. Seems its a "division" that funcitons as the MPs or SPs (referred to as Security Police but technically called Security Police Squadron- Air Force)- Royal Marines without KHs skills certainly these individuals have recieve preferential consideration for transfer to the "boat crews"

3. While most police forces are simply reactive to crime and do not prosecute it in the tradition of JAG services of militaries everywhere there might also be a JAG section as well. lawyers that could investigate and presecute/defend in court.

Also I think its obvious that the above statement was included in the module to allow the GM to "rail road" the players a little and involve them in action on the station. "You just happen to be present when a fight breaks out at the Dance and Dice; two Royal Marines SPs are badly outnumbered in the riot, what do you do?"
