Mission: Requiem for the Dead

Came across a story from Portland, ME's past

1692 during King William's War which was the America side show to the War of the League of Augsburg (basicly English vs French and Indian allies):

On a summer day in August 1692, a group of men under the command of Govenor Phips and Major Benjamin Church warily approached what is now the intersection of Fore Street and India Street in the City of Portland. They had every reason to be cautious. King Williams's War..... was still raging. These men needed no reminders of the possibility of ambush and sudden violence. Two years previously, the French and their Native American allies had overrun Fort Loyall and slaughtered the inhabitants. Part of the mission for Phip's company was to collect the bleached bones of those victims who for two years had been left unburied, subject to the ravages of weather and scavenging animals. Somewhere near the ill-fated fort, they dug a trench and interred the remains.

Note the location of this trench burial is still unknown.

This makes an great adventure seed:

1. PCs are hired to recover remains of mercenary lost in a back of beyond corporate conflict. Yazirian version: warriors must be laid to rest with due respect and honor

2. six and a half years ago a star liner disappeared, in 5 months the crew and passengers will be presumed dead. Galazy Mutual Insurance the underwriter for the insurance policies the Trans Travel provides for every passenger on a starliner would rather not pay out on all those policies so its dispatching a team to try to track down the starliner. Since Galaxy Mutual is a subsidary of Streel, a Streel privateer is being made available for this mission. Its presumed that the ship was lost thru a misjump so team will need to retrace last cruise of the starliner and scout possible systems where the starliner could have misjumped to.

Later Galaxy Mutual will deny payment of insurance for passengers that died on planet and not in transit on ship. PCs could become involved in this being hired by family of the deceased to prove cupability of TT & GM.
