Larry Elmore on Star Frontiers

First off he reveals that the art department got next to no notice on the Star Frontiers game and that he as well as Easley and the other artists would have loved to have been included in the design of the aliens, what came out they never liked. He felt that if Easley had been given a shot at doing the concept art for the aliens that they would have really had something. Of all the new aliens Larry liked the "monkey dude" the most. They were not given any time at all to do the SF art as it was rush rush to get it to market after the revamp of the rules from what Cook and Schick had done.

The Basic Game book cover was a color rough (acrlyic wash and ink on illustration board)
where as the advance game rule book was a finished painting (oil on illustration board)

Larry wrote that he had both Star Wars and Alein on his mind but that he did not actually paint the picture that was in his head and that he was disappointed with the AD cover of the ship crash with the two humans and yazirian, which is simply titled STar Frontiers in the art book

He says he enjoyed the following paintings since he had more time to paint them:

He also painted the KHs cover which was titled Fighter Attack (acrylic and oils on illustration board)

The Villians of Volturnus book cover was titled "Star Frontiers Endless Quest book cover" (acrylic and oils on illustration board)

He enjoyed ship design and the big ship in the following was his favorite.
