Hi, all, it's been a (long) while since I've really visited.

It was a slow night here, and I started musing about a game for one of my groups, and thoughts turned to SF, and soon to the Clarion Royal Marines and then to the Mercy Mission concept. Did that ever get run?

I'm sliding back and forth between running 2 games. One would be with the players as crew of a ship, either in the Royal Marines, or as civilian contractors to the RM. The latter would be hired to set up/maintain/upgrade the net of sensor buoys orbiting Clarion, or perhaps a net going up around another world? Various side events might or might not pop up, perhaps tied to the enmity with Streel?

The other would not be a traditional RPG, but a miniatures campaign, using the concepts developed here. The Clarion peacekeeping force, injected into the civil war below. My favorite rulesets so far are Stargrunt II and Dirtside II, both from Ground Zero Games (free rules on their websites!). While they have their own setting, the rules are written as generics, so one can set up their own forces and equipment. Per the suggestion mentioned here, the player characters would be the squad & platoon leaders, with replacement PCs/cohort NPCs in their subordinate units. I dunno if I'll get deep into that, but it could be something fun.
