Flags and Logos

I wandered into the Alternative History group at Deviant art and got caught up in one guy's gallery who has been producing skads of flags for fictional Middle Eastern kingdoms and republics. Particularly liked the Commonwealth of Assyria flag. I might have to go back there and down load a bunch of his stuff and file it away in a colonial steam punk folder some where.<br /><br />It got me thinking about flags and logos, especially since there was some recent discussion in Rattraveller's excellent project on mega coprs about the Zebs PGC logo being post Laco's War and just what would a Pre Laco war PGC logo look like.<br /><br />BTW I should plug the fact that you should watch for some fresh renderings of the corporate logos from the Zebs guide in an issue of the Frontier Explorer in 2013; perhaps even be able to download the jpeg or png files directly from the electronic version of the zine for use in you games or whatever.<br /><br />So immediately I thought of these crests/emblems:<br />Royal Marines<br /><img src="/files/u4436/CRM_badge.jpg" height="600" width="636" /><br />Royal Mounted Constabulary<br /><img src="/files/u4436/Royal_Mounted_Constabulary.png" height="200" width="143" /><br /><br />Wasn't able to locate the crest for the Royal Guard at this time<br /><br />So I thought we could talk about flags/logos/emblems/crests<br /><br />Some things are obvious like a Flag for clarion would likely include a lion, bird or prey or perhaps a gryphon<br /><br />flag for Lossend would likely include Mt spire or the losso dragon, Terl Obar did some excellent logos for the Lossend Ranger service and the post SW2 Lossend Space Rangers (see FE #1) http://www.frontierexplorer.org/book/lossend<br /><br />I believe that the SF community that was active on the old list serve worked up a UPF flag based on something in Zebs. I think there is a GIF animation of it waving in the wind somewhere.<br /><br />Lots of possibilities our there for development- cadres and terrorist organizations- Star Law flag? space fleet flag/crest, Mega corp flag? <br /><br />It seems to me that an organized planetary government would have distinctive crests, emblems and flags where as a cadre or terrorist organization would likely have one design that is copied in both the crest and flag and logo.<br /><br />this of course does not get into the whole field of latin or yazirian mottos but that could also be in discussion here.<br /><br />Perhaps we could use a vexology index project for the discussion of individual flags/logos/emblems and crests and where images could be uploaded to the files area?<br /><br />
