Channel surfing I briefly watched an old western where a US marshal (like a star law marshal) deputized a local-"Do you solemnly swear to uphold the laws of the United States in the territory of ________ so help you God?"
Response- "I do"

"Congratulations, you are now a deputy US marshal."

in the story a posse was being formed.

Question is would a Star Law marshal do this? probably not on a high to medium population world unless it was an extreme situation, like he could not trust the local law enforcement. Or on a corporate world/outpost where he could not trust the company security.

They can commandeer a space ship and by default the crew of that ship becomes agents of star law if the ship is fired upon they will have to respond and would be covered by the commandeering authority so the act of commandeering a ship is a defacto deputization of its crew.
