Working throughway mapping out the evolutionary tree for the 37-40 odd volturnian species got me thinking about this: the yerniods are more primitive versions of the eorna but with scales and the eorna have evolved hair that they braid and adorn with beautiful objects. There must be a missing link between the eorna and the yernoids that led to both the eorna and all the volturnian mammals. So what is the eorna view on the yernoid? Why didn't they uplift the yernoid to sapience like the other three races they did this with? Idea that occurred to me was perhaps they have an ingrained pathological disdain for the yernoid and resent any suggestion that the are related. Much like the populations of certain Carribean islands staunchly insist they are not black but rather white. Just kicking this around, it could be rooted in religion, philosophy, or part of the trauma associated with the Day of Death (sathar's first arrival).
