I may have stated this in another thread and if I did apologies. Bit my feeling is that if a hull has space to fit a weapon it should be able to do so. How ever I'd also like a system of weapons similar to engines: grade A, B, C. Typically you'd find grade A weapons on the same ships as have grade A engines and the same for grade B and C. However if a if a designer wanted a grade B laser battery on his HS 4 Corvette it could come as a rude surprise to an assault scout crew. But the trade off is that increases in grade eat up more space so that Corvette will pack fewer guns as a consequence of having a really big gun. It would change the game so that capitol grade ships (C grade) are required to take on other capitol ships and cruiser grade focus on other cruiser grade ships and small craft or gun boat grade take on others of their size class more or less- there will always be room for seemingly unequal match ups. Also when you get into the larger size vessels there will be seriously more weapons on say a battleship and some sort of volley fire rules will be required to make them playable.
