There is RW tech with a patent that could allow for a "force field" to hold back atmosphere in an open hanger bay. May even be able to hold back nine atmospheres. Couple of drawbacks though: right now we can only make it one inch in diameter and the temperature is 15,000 Kelvins which is like 2,6540 F. So Mr. SPOCK testing a force fails with his index finger is certainly contra indicated.
