Stargate Universe

What do you diehard Stargate fans think of it? I thought it was great. It adds thick drama, but some don't like that. I do. It mixes in some of the plot devices from Battlestar Galactica, but will hopefully follow a different plot line. It's more serious and realistic than the previous Stargate shows without being quite as intense as Battlestar Galactica.<br /><br /><br /><b>Questions arisen in the show:</b><br /><br />Weren't those Goa'uld ships? I thought the Goa'uld were extinct in Stargate canon. Could they have been a a faction that took refuge in some distant part of the Galaxy? Or were those Baal's ships? (I missed a lot of the end of the SG-1 series, but it seemed Baal no longer had his symbiote on the SG-1 episode after the SU premiere. Morena Baccarin: Grrrrowlllll <img src="http://starfrontiers.us/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugi…; alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" border="0" />)<br /><br />Who is the spy? Is it the annoying Asian chick? Is it Dr. Rush? Is it the guy in the white shirt? Is there only one spy?<br /><br />Was Dr. Rush really given charge by O'Neal?<br /><br /><br />Every episode of every show has its problems. The question is whether the show is good enough to overlook the problems. <b>My issues with that particular episode are fairly light and I like the show:</b><br /><br />I knew the second that I saw the father that he was going to die, because that actor makes his money as a &quot;character actor&quot;. Character actors are the temps of the acting world. They should have used an unknown actor in that role so that it wouldn't have been so predictable. I like the actor, and he did a great job, but his presence in the role was a dead giveaway (pardon the pun).<br /><br />Corporal Greer is an ass. There's no way any officer would tolerate his insubordination even in that situation.<br /><br />I'm worried that Dr.Rush might turn out to be either or both a Laura Roselin and/or Dr. Gaius Baltar. Greer a Starbuck, Lt. Scott an Apollo, and thus Col. Young an Admiral Adama.<br /><br />There's an extreme lack of color in the show (As was wrong with Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica). A token black guy and a token Asian chick (Sound familiar?) do not make for racial diversity.<br /><br /><br /><b>Some cool things that I particularly liked about that episode:</b><br /><br />How they introduced us to the ship's layout in the opening, showing us how the various sets come together.<br /><br />The reveal that the ship they're on actually drops off stargates at each habitable planet it finds.<br /><br />Eli is cooloer than I thought he would be. Great spontaneous wit.<br /><br />The hovering probes.<br /><br />The depth of character inherent in a drama.<br /><br />Lt. Scott is very principled. He's likely the pure one that's going to be corrupted as the series goes along. He's not greatly dynamic, but I think his corruption will bring out his dynamics.<br /><br />The deterioration of the ship.<br /><br />The inclusion of the original SG-1 crew (though minus Teal'c) presented in a more realistic way to help set the tone of the series.<br /><br />Their naming the new earth defense ship &quot;The Hammond&quot;. (Was that introduced in the last season of SG-1?)<br /><br />Until the show progresses more, I don't have much more to say for now.<br /><br /><br /><br />The next episode should give us the formula of how planetside adventures are going to go.<br /><br />I'd like to hear your ideas about how it will progress, what questions you have, and your opinions about the episode?
